5 Mistakes Small Biz Owners Make on Social Media

1. Posting without a plan

The mistake: You post when you “have time” or feel inspired, but there’s no clear strategy or consistency.
The fix: Create a lightweight content plan. Start by deciding on 2–3 content themes (ex: behind-the-scenes, tips, product highlights), and plan just one week at a time.

2. Hiding Your Personality

The mistake: You sound too formal or generic—like you’re writing a brochure instead of being yourself.
The fix: Show your face, tell your story, and write like you talk. People connect with you, not just your work.

3. Inconsistent Branding

The mistake: Every post looks different—different fonts, colors, or vibes—and it confuses people.
The fix: Use a cohesive brand kit: 2–3 fonts, a color palette, and consistent templates. Adobe Express is great for setting this up fast, even if you’re not a designer.

4. Only Selling (and Nothing Else)

The mistake: Your content is all “buy this, buy that.”
The fix: Balance sales with value. Try the 80/20 rule: 80% content that educates, entertains, or inspires—20% promotional.

5. Overcomplicating Everything

The mistake: You think every post needs to be perfect, or that you need to be on every single platform.
The fix: Simplify. Pick one or two platforms that feel good to you. Repurpose content. And remember—done is better than perfect.

Bonus Tip 💡

Your social media is part of your brand, but it’s not the whole thing. Make sure your design, voice, and visuals work together to tell a clear story about who you are and what you offer.
