3 Tips to Make Your Letters Pop!

What if I told you that you can take a super simple letter and make it pop with 3 simple and easy techniques? Well you can! Here are my 3 tips to help make your letters pop using Procreate. Say goodbye to a plain letter and level up your style with these simple techniques. Grab your iPad and let’s get started!

Start off simple

You don’t need to get super fancy with your letters. Draw a letter as simple as you can that way you can easily build upon that design.

Tip 1: Make it 3 Dimensional

An easy way to make your letter 3D is to make a duplicate of it and fill in that duplicate with a darker shade of your original color. I used a darker pink for this one. Then drag your layer down to the bottom right and connect it to the top layer using diagonal lines. It should look something like the image below.

Tip 2: Add Shadow

Now you can really make it pop by adding some shadow to your bottom layer. Let’s pretend sunlight is coming from the top right corner of my R. Everything below should be shaded in an even darker pink. You can see below I darkened only the bottom areas of my letter R.

Tip 3: Add more depth

Now for the final tip! Add some more depth by trying this simple technique. Select the monoline brush and the background color. Then create a new layer below your letter R (the light pink R at the top). Now draw a stroke following the edges of the R on the right sides and top sides of the letter. It should look like this:

And that’s it! Try out these 3 simple tips to make your letters pop even more! I recommend starting off simple with your designs so you can add more to it as your creating. If you enjoyed this tutorial check out my Top 5 Tips for Pencil Lettering!
